A BRIEF COMMENTARY ON TRADE SECRET LAW

In 1995 Russia joined the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade of the World Trade Organization.

One of the conditions for the membership of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade is to secure the intellectual property rights of their owners in Russia on the level of international requirements established by the Agreement on Trade Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights. The essential obligation for the state-members to the Agreement is to provide protection of a trade secret of corporations and individuals through internal laws.

A critical step towards the said Agreement was taken on January 22, 1999 when the Trade Secret Law was enacted. more
